OUTREACH PROGRAMS

The Outreach Programme is underpinned by the University strategic initiative to ‘conduct community-based outreach programmes and develop mechanisms for knowledge management’. It is part of the University corporate social responsibility, to assist communities, rural or urban, realize their dreams. It is a way of taking the University to the people to enlarge their horizons. The University sponsors the partnership with transport, training and resources like computers, according to community needs. The Outreach is established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which sets the terms of the agreement. The community must generate the MoU as it is the one privy to its situation prior to approaching the University for ratification.

Continuing education and adult learning has always been important to the University of NUST.
The Centre also undertakes research in continuing and lifelong education, and open and distance learning.
It also facilitates research in all other disciplines of higher education, particularly to determine how these disciplines can be best delivered via open and distance learning modes. The Centre provides consultancy services in open and distance learning and serves as a clearing house for specified consultancy services offered by the National University of Science and Technology. What exactly do we mean by adult and continuing education? Continuing education refers to any type of post-secondary education, used to either obtain additional certifications, or as credits required to maintain a license. Almost anybody can take continuing education credits for personal or professional enrichment; business personnel, IT specialists, and safety instructors are examples of professionals who fall into the second category.
Continuing education is also aimed at adults who already possess a college or university degree. It can take the form of workshops, seminars, home-study or online courses, conferences, or hands-on training. There is no specific format or length for a continuing education program: some may take a weekend, while others can span weeks or even months. Adult education is a field of education that deals with the teaching of adults. There is no standard definition for what qualifies as adult education beyond this broad definition. Educating adults differs from educating children in several ways. One of the most important differences is that adults have accumulated knowledge and experience that can add to or hinder the learning experience.
There is no standard definition for what qualifies as adult education beyond this broad definition. Educating adults differs from educating children in several ways. One of the most important differences is that adults have accumulated knowledge and experience that can add to or hinder the learning experience. Another difference is that most adult education is voluntary, therefore, the participants are generally better motivated. Adults frequently apply their knowledge in a practical fashion to learn effectively. They must have a reasonable expectation that the knowledge recently gained will help them further their goals. This is why it is the objective of the center to help other institutes to come up with tailor made courses that are conducted at a level and pace that suits this type of education.
