Biography

Dr Jonathan Tembo is a distinguished academic and finance professional with a profound background in business management, banking, and financial services. He joined the Department of Banking and Economic Sciences as a Lecturer in 2011. Dr Tembo is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Finance and Investment Management at the University of Johannesburg, where he actively engages in independent research, collaborating with peers, teaching, and providing guidance to students in research supervision. He has secured various research grants, including the prestigious BANKSETA Higher Education Grant in 2022. Dr Tembo`s research output is evident in numerous journal publications and conference presentations. Beyond the classroom, Dr Tembo has made significant contributions as an External Examiner for the University of South Africa and the Management College of South Africa. He has also been involved in the IDEP Certificate Migration Policy, Free Movement, and Regional Integration within the Context of Covid and AFCFTA, showcasing his commitment to broader academic and policy initiatives.

Bachelor of Business Studies Honours Degree in Finance and Banking (University of Zimbabwe)

His research expertise extends to areas such as regional integration, mobile money, financial development, and bank failure.

Community Service/Engagement

Dr Tembo is actively involved in community engagement through various platforms.  On a global scale he has presented on the benefits of regional financial integration for African countries at the AfDB facilitated African Economic Conference and at the World Finance Conference. At a national level, Dr Tembo has shared his knowledge and expertise with the civic community at various symposia including the Research Council of Zimbabwe Symposium, and the annual Research and Intellectual Expo. He has also served as the Faculty of Business and Economic Sciences representative at the Institutional Review Board.
