Department of Radiography
Mrs. Sindiso Nleya: Chairperson
The Department of Radiography at the National University of Science and Technology aims
to take a leading role in the advancement of diagnostic and therapeutic radiation sciences
through high quality teaching and cutting edge research. We offer comprehensive education
and training in contemporary radiography practice in order to produce practitioners who
remain relevant in a highly dynamic technological environment. We strive to inculcate
patient centred care and evidence based practice as guiding principles in the practice of
radiography. Apart from traditional areas of general radiography, the department focuses on;
radiation physics, radiobiology and radiation protection, advances in medical imaging
technologies, medical ultrasound; radiotherapy; nuclear medicine; and musculoskeletal
image reporting to cater for pertinent needs of the clientele and the industry today.
At undergraduate level, the Department offers BSc Honours in Radiography and the BSc
Special Honours in Radiography degree programs.
At postgraduate level the department offers; MSc in Radiography (Taught); MSc in Medical
Ultrasound (taught) and Master of Philosphy (MPhil) in Radiography/ Ultrasound
(Research) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Radiography/Ultrasound (Research).
In the near future we hope to introduce new programmes that include; HND, DIP in Medical
Ultrasound; the BSc in Radiography (Radiotherapeutic) as well as MSc in Nuclear Medicine.
All undergraduate programmes are currently on full-time basis, except for BSc Special
Honours in Radiography which is offered on Block-Release basis. All Masters Degrees are
offered on a Part-time/Block release basis. The department collaborates with local and
international institutions in order to enhance its research capacity and teaching activities.
