The Department of Agricultural Genetics and Cell Technology, within the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology, is at the forefront of integrating advanced genetic research and cell-based technologies to drive innovation in agriculture. With a focus on genetic improvement, plant biotechnology, and molecular breeding, the department equips students with the expertise to enhance agricultural productivity and resilience through cutting-edge techniques like gene editing, CRISPR, and tissue culture. The department is dedicated to addressing critical global challenges, including food security, climate resilience, and sustainable resource management. Through hands-on laboratory work, field research, and collaboration with industry experts, students gain practical experience in genetic enhancement, pest and disease resistance, and the development of crops and livestock better suited to changing environmental conditions. By fostering a strong research culture, the department prepares graduates to lead in both academia and the agricultural biotechnology industry, contributing to the next generation of sustainable, high-performance agricultural systems.
