WELCOME TO

THE DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY

Mr Daniel Sibanda - Chairperson

The Department of Pharmacology and Biochemistry consists of the following:

Biochemistry section – offers a preclinical introduction to the chemical basis of life; the structure, interaction, and function of biological molecules which underpins biological processes and mechanisms of disease. Current research in this section encompasses the mechanisms by which plant-derived bioactive compounds and extracts exert their antidiabetic effects and the methods of transdermal and oral insulin delivery.

Pharmacology section – provides preclinical and clinical pharmacology education with the aim of training health practitioners on the origins, properties, and effects of drugs on living systems. Research in this section encompasses a broad range of fields focusing on drug discovery and therapeutics.
