Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the following posts that have arisen in the University: 

 

DEPUTY DEAN (1 POST)

Faculty of Medicine 

The Faculty consists of the following Departments: Medicine, Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology and Biochemistry, Pathology, Community Medicine, Paediatrics, Nursing and Midwifery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery and Anaesthetic; and Psychiatry, Social and Behavioural Sciences. 

The post of Deputy Dean is a full-time high level position to be held for a period of three (3) years in the first instance. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor through the Dean, the Deputy Dean shall be responsible for the character and quality of the clinical academic programmes and functions of the Faculty, in addition to assisting the Dean in the provision of research and academic leadership; administration and management, community outreach, income generation and financial management of the Faculty. 

Applicants must hold MBChB or equivalent and MMED in any field of Medicine or equivalent and be at least at Senior Lecturer Grade or have credentials that would qualify them for appointment at that level. Further, they must be registered with the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ). The successful candidate should have a proven track record of successful academic and administrative leadership skills, a proven commitment to academic excellence and collaboration across disciplines as well as a demonstrated ability to forge partnerships and garner support from campus, business and community constituencies leading to generation of external funding for research and teaching. Ability to work in a team is a requirement. Teaching experience, research and a qualification in Health Education will be added advantages.

 

LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (1 POST)

Department of Environmental Science and Health – Faculty of Applied Science

Applicants must be holders of a Masters degree in a Public Health area preferably with inclination towards the field of Environmental Health.  A PhD in the relevant field would be an added advantage.  Applicants should be holders of Undergraduate Honours Degree in Environmental Science and Health or Public Health.  The successful applicant should be able to teach Disease Prevention and Control, Food Hygiene, Port Health and any other Health related courses that are on offer in the Department of Environmental Science and Health.

 

LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (2 POSTS)

Department of Applied Mathematics – Faculty of Applied Science

Applicants must have a PhD in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics with research interests in Pure or Applied Mathematics.  Applicants with an MSc degree in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics with a track record of publications may be considered.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach a wide variety of courses on the BSc (Honours) in Applied Mathematics Programme and the MSc in Applied Mathematical Modelling Programme. 

 

LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (6 POSTS)

Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Design – Faculty of The Built Environment 

Applicants must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree and a Masters Degree in any of the following disciplines: Urban Design, Architecture, Property Development and Estate Management, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design, Construction Technology, Environmental Design; and Housing and Infrastructure. 

The successful candidates should be able to teach the following courses, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels: Construction Materials, Building Services, Building Construction, International Valuations, Urban Design Principles, Economics for Urban Design, Plant and Machinery, Geographic Information Systems, Property, Landscape Architecture Taxation, Theory and Practice for Landscape Architecture Construction; and Land Services. In addition, they will be expected to supervise students at these levels.

 

LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (2 POSTS)

Department of Journalism and Media Studies – Faculty of Communication and Information Science 

Post A

Applicants must possess a Masters Degree in Journalism and/or Media Studies or related area from a recognised university.  A PhD degree is a distinct advantage.  Applicants must be able to teach courses in radio, television and film as well as a wide variety of practical and theoretical courses offered by the Department.  Practical experience in either radio, television or film will be an added advantage.  Successful candidates will also be expected to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Applicants must possess a Master’s Degree in Journalism and/or Media Studies or related area from a recognised university.  A PhD degree is a distinct advantage.  Applicants must be able to teach courses in public relations, advertising, strategic communication and new media as well as a wide variety of practical and theoretical courses offered by the Department.  Practical experience in either public relations, advertising, strategic communication or new media will be an added advantage.  Successful candidates will also be expected to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.

 

LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (1 POST)

Department of Publishing Studies – Faculty of Communication and Information Science 

Applicants should have a first degree in Publishing and at least a Masters Degree in Publishing or Information Science related discipline. A PhD in Publishing or related discipline would be an added advantage. The candidates should be able to teach and research in areas specific to Publishing. The successful applicant will be expected to guide and supervise students’ research at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Applicants who had previously applied for this post are advised not to re-apply.

 

STAFF DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIP (1 POST)

Department of Civil and Water Engineering (Structural Engineering) – Faculty of Engineering 

Applications must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil and Water Engineering with at least a 2.1 degree classification or better. Admission into an Engineering University for a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering would be an added advantage.
