The Vice Chancellor, Professor Mqhele. E. Dlodlo has encouraged newly elected Students Representative Council (SRC) members to be innovative positive thinkers in this challenging economic environment.
“We need more positive thinkers who can think themselves out of any situation. It is amazing what you can do when you are positive. Lead with courage. When things are tough, think in other terms. Step back a little and look at it differently,” said Prof Dlodlo.
Led by the newly elected President, Innocent Dombo, the fifteen member SRC met the Vice Chancellor, to introduce themselves as well as share their vision.
Prof Dlodlo congratulated the new SRC members for being elected as student leaders.
“Congratulations to you all. We are happy that you won the right to lead. It is a recognition of who you are .Be sensitive to minority rights and practice an egalitarian way of leading,” he said.
The new SRC body which was voted into power on the 10th of October 2019, welcomed thewords of encouragement from the Vice Chancellor and assured that they will be innovative as they strive to come up with new ways of generating income.
Dombo called for a paradigm shift in how the SRC is perceived, as negative perception incapacitates and renders them useless therefore making it difficult for them to work.
“It makes it difficult for us to think and work effectively if we are viewed as partisans,” said Dombo.
The new SRC pleaded with the Vice Chancellor to help them with whatever they needed especially if it was going to ensure smooth operations for the University.
