SRC Donates towards Cyclone Idai

SRC participates in Philanthropic Activities - Donates to Cylcone Idai victims

THE 2018/2019 NUST Student Representative Council (SRC) handed over donations for the Cyclone Idai victims to the Vice-Chancellor at the Student Affairs Division today. These donations were mobilized through the annual students’ beauty pageantry dubbed ‘Miss NUST Idai’ which ran under the theme “No beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart”.

The SRC collected donations ranging from clothes, shoes and toiletries from students and non-students who attended the Miss NUST 2019 event. Using some of the proceeds of the event, the SRC purchased one tonne of mealie-meal which will also be sent to assist the victims.

The Acting Dean of Students, Ms. Stylish Magida commended the SRC’s initiative as it showed their devotion in doing charity works for the betterment of other people’s lives.

“Such philanthropic activities should be encouraged, supported and nurtured so that this mindset becomes ingrained in the NUST culture that will make our students shine and raise the university flag high,” she said.

In his remarks before handing over the donation, the SRC president, Mr. Dennis Mwashita, expressed his gratitude to the SRC team and all who participated in mobilizing the donation citing that their work will go a long way in helping the cyclone victims.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eng. Mqhele Dlodlo, applauded the SRC which displayed great leadership qualities. He highlighted that they truly understood what leadership means and they have proved to be a responsible cabinet to the Students’ Union.

Prof. Eng. Dlodlo, said: “The SRC have done what the first Vice-Chancellor envisioned in his personal motto which was; To live, To love, To leave a legacy.” They are truly leaving legacy of good leadership,” he added.
