Vacancy: Deputy Registrar - Human Resources

Qualifications

The post requires an individual with:-

  • At least a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management or related field;
  • Five (5) years’ post qualification administrative experience in a University setting;
  • a PhD/Dphil degree or possession of a professional qualification (like IPMZ diplomas) in the relevant area will be an added advantage;

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Deputy Registrar, Human Resources will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop and implement Human Resources strategies in line with the University’s strategy Policies;
  • Update and modernise human resources policies and procedures with regard to recruitment and selection, promotion, employment relations, remuneration, conditions of service and retention of talent;
  • Coordinate the recruitment, selection of applicants with Departmental Chairpersons and Heads of Departments;
  • Lead the process of performance management system and coordinate performance appraisals;
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of a robust Human Resources Information System;
  • Provide advice and guidance on staff discipline, grievance handling and compliance with statutes and regulations;
  • Coordinate training, learning and development programmes to support the strategy implementation process by ensuring appropriate human capital capacity;
  • Manage staff salaries and benefits. 

 

Desired Skills and Attributes

This is a senior position that requires a mature, hardworking, and reliable Human Resources generalist with all-round experience, ability to operate at a strategic level, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to draft policies and procedures, ability to conduct training, and expertise in handling legal processes in relation to labour issues. In addition, ability to work independently in resolving human resources issues, knowledge of the Employment Code of Conduct in a University setting, knowledge of payroll software, strong IT skills with demonstrable proficiency in the use of databases and Microsoft programs, and good writing skills are essential. The successful candidate will report to the Registrar.
